About the artist

Dancing with death provides an interesting perspective on life. Genre-fluid pop artist, multi-instrumentalist and brain cancer survivor Jaime Jackett is a powerful and evocative performer based on Djugun-Yawuru Country, in Broome, Western Australia. Jackett’s music delicately treads the contrast between light and dark, deliberately juxtaposing them, and playing with the patterns and shadows they create. “Life is short. Death isn’t at the end of the line, but beside you the whole way.”

With a dynamic voice that morphs from glass-clear and sweet, to blues-drenched wails, Jackett draws in audiences with her raw delivery, story and grit. Anchored by hooks, her music is influenced by a wide range of genres drawing in rock, blues, pure pop, folk and soul. Her cleverly penned lyrics tell tales of love, tribulations, and connection to the planet and community.

Since the release of her debut album ‘Reinvention’ in 2024, Jackett has intentionally ‘reinvented’ the pop album for live performances. Gritty, bluesy rock for Blues at Bridgetown 2024, and Untamed Festival in Broome 2025 supporting Spiderbait, Regurgitator and Legs Electric; an acoustic trio; and a solo piano reinvention to support Meg Washington in Port Hedland, April 2025. This shape-shifting – and the resilience of the songs in the face of genre change – stands as a testament to the strength of Jackett’s songwriting.

Jackett is also known for her work in Austral-Canadian folk-pop band Belle Miners whose career has spanned over a decade and with whom she has toured internationally. The band were awarded ‘People’s Choice’ and ‘Runner Up’’ in the Cygnet Folk Festival’s ‘Song and Tune Competition 2020/21’ for their song ‘Cradle To Caves’ which was written using material from a series of songwriting workshops the band did in partnership with Tasmania Parks and Wildlife in 2020.

Sharing her story to empower others, for 5 years she has run her ‘Song a Day May’ fundraiser – writing a song each day in May for brain cancer research with the Charlie Teo Foundation – amassing over 150 songs. 8 of 11 tracks on her solo debut album ‘Reinvention’ (released September 2024) are from this challenge.

A driven and determined artist, Jackett isn’t afraid to stand in her own truth, and speak her mind through her songs. “Reinvention” introduces Jaime Jackett as a daring solo artist with an unforgettable sound, disarming honesty and hunger to make the most of this short life.
