About the artist
ICONYX is a rising First Nations artist originally from the Kimberley. The debut album, Blak On Trak, was released in 2025 via Skinnyfish Music, marking a significant milestone in the young artist’s career, showcasing a powerful voice, cultural heritage, and a unique perspective as an artist telling stories and navigating the world without sight. This highly anticipated project, which was five years in the making under the mentorship of Boss Arts Creative, showcases ICONYX’s extraordinary talent as a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer. ICONYX’s music blends hip-hop, pop, world music and R&B to explore themes of love, loss, injustice, and the personal experience of growing up in the city. In ICONYX’s storytelling- deeply influenced by family roots of Kukatja and Pintupi mobs and inspired by legendary artists such as Archie Roach and Gurrumul- ICONYX invites listeners into a unique sonic journey. A dedicated songwriter and co-producer, ICONYX crafts music through a deep connection to tactile sound, offering sighted audiences an immersive and powerful experience.
Furthermore, ICONYX’s connection to the late Archie Roach and Gurrumul remains a significant influence, with both families granting rare permission to perform and reimagine their music, further solidifying ICONYX’s place in the Australian music landscape.
ICONYX’s impressive accolades include 8 WAM Award nominations and being the 2022 Act Belong Commit category winner for the song “Dawn of the Future”, and the 2025 Act Belong Commit and Outstanding Indigenous categories winner for the song “Blak on Trak”. Since the release of Blak On Trak, ICONYX has received widespread media attention, and has had interviews and music played on Australian radio stations country wide. In March 2026, ICONYX performed on ABC’s The Piano, which is available to watch on ABC iView (Season 2, Episode 4). In June 2026 ICONYX travelled to Timor-Leste with a production team on an Australian Embassy supported songwriting and culture sharing project with a local artist. The second part of this project will involve travelling back in September 2026 to perform their collaborations together for festival audiences.
Most recently, ICONYX received the prestigious 2026 NAIDOC Perth Artist of the Year award. When not making music, ICONYX is an avid bookworm and loves to play soccer and tennis. Known for a headstrong, passionate, and playful personality, ICONYX has a bright future ahead, and continues to inspire audiences with a unique voice and unwavering determination to reach for the stars.
