Stephanie Vaughan
Born in Yorkshire, England in 1961, the youngest of three boys. I was aware of being different especially about my gender from an early age. At 13, instead of entering a male puberty, I developed as a girl. I was lied to about the reasons by my parents and medical professionals.
In 2006 I emigrated to WA, in 2012 while being treated for a thyroid issue it was discovered that I was producing a huge amount of oestrogen. When no logical reason was found I was accused of self inflicting. My GP asked me to get my records from the UK NHS, what I was given was a very censored version. My GP was suspicious and sent me to a specialist who told me I am Intersex/Hermaphrodite and had been born with both male and female genitalia and modified at birth to be a boy. Sadly my head and heart knew I should be a girl. After a very dark 8 months I made the decision to transition to the girl I should always have been.
Throughout my transition I posted regularly on my blog steps2stephanie.com and in 2021 I published a book about my journey to raise awareness of intersex and transgender people.
