It’s hard not to be transported to another place when you close your eyes and listen to Lena Kellie perform. Her voice, as gentle as it is powerful; stirring as it is dynamic – will pull you into the world of which she is singing to. A musician with an unconditional connection to the keys of her piano, Lena sings her lyrics of love, heartbreak and raging anger; all whilst fooling you into a warm sense of skin-tingling hope.
Spending time as a child in the bush with her skilled stockman Grandfather, Lena learnt of country, American folk and blues music that would form an early founded love of melody, voice and chords. Finding her independence as a teenager, Lena began catching the bus to the city’s library to borrow as many CDs as possible to sync into her iTunes library. Her obsession with musical classics began and the influences in her personal expression are evident of this. Not only was Lena inspired by artists such as Bob Dylan, America, Nina Simone and Sam Cooke, her appreciation and love for Beethoven, Chopin and Stravinsky were fully realised when she attended University to study music and voice.
Since leaving her tertiary education, Lena performs her original songs and covers locally around Darwin. She is currently expanding her production and writing skills with the plan to release music in the very near future.
