Nannup Music Festival 2009 SOLD OUT
The 2009 Nannup Music Festival was a huge success and what a wonderful way to celebrate the 20th Festival with the SOLD OUT sign on the Festival office. This is the first time in the history of the Festival that all the available tickets have been sold.
Nannup was a very busy place over the weekend with all accommodation booked out and camping grounds overflowing. The weather was very kind and there was only a small sprinkling of rain near the end of the Headline Concert on Sunday night.
Wow! what a Headline Concert it was, to see the queue nearly to the end of Brookman Street as people waited to get into the venue was an amazing sight. The concert was superb from the opening act of Andrew Winton accompanied on stage for some of the time by his wife Karen, then Mama Kin with her brother Michael, followed by Lior and then who everyone had been waiting for, Gurrumul, and he did not disappoint. The Concert was an event to be remembered as all the artists combined to produce a magical evening entertainment.
The previous Saturday night Headline Concert was also astounding with Microwave Jenny, Tin Pan Orange, Jez Lowe and Kate Bramley and Michelle Shocked.
Michelle flew especially from Los Angeles to perform exclusively in Nannup.
The Festival Artistic Coordinator Phaedra Watts has to be congratulated not only on the Headline concerts but the array and quality of artists that she brought to the whole Festival.
Other highlights of the Festival included the opening night. with children from the Nannup District High School singing songs they had written and composed. They have also produced a CD with all sale proceeds going to fund future music projects. The Childrens Talent Quest was very successful with 29 different acts performed by children from 3 to 12.The Melissa Raser Emerging Artist Award was won by Isabel who received 10 hours of recording time at Sound Mine Studio.
The Festival provided music and activities to suit all tastes and ages and the 21st Festival in 2010 will certainly be something not to be missed. Watch the website for details and book early after this years sell out.
The Festival would not have been possible without the dedicated work of the Nannup Music Club Committee and Festival portfolio holders. It was a huge and very successful team effort.
